Make Money Blogging

Welcome to my blog. Like so many other blogs and websites this is about making money with blogs and websites....in particular this is about my experiences making money on the internet. At the time of this writing, I am the author of something in the area of 40 blogs, which keeps me pretty busy. Along the way I have learned quite a bit about what works and what doesn't. I hope my experiences help you.

Bits and Pieces - Ramblings of an Insatiable Blogger

As I go about the business of trying to make money from blogs I sometimes feel a little overwhelmed. It's not easy to come up with several blog posts a night on several different topics that can be financially successful. I seem to have developed a bit of a posting rhythm, but nonetheless I still find it daunting by times.

Lately I have been reconsidering my approach as well. The idea of multiple blogs each making a little bit of money, compared to a couple of blogs each making a lot of money is a tough one. Both require quite a bit of work, and I haven't decided which is easier, or more lucrative from an online income point of view.

Certainly having several blogs means I don't get bored with my niche, because as soon as I do, I switch to another blog and write about something completely different. The problem is finding the time to do the necessary research to do each blog justice, particularly blogs that involve reading other blogs and websites, like my blog review site.

The other thing I have found is that a couple of my blogs make most of my money, so it begs the question, why not give up the non-paying blogs and concentrate on the ones that earn money. Well...I have thought about that, and decided to keep going with the non-payers anyway. Unfortunately they are the ones that I most enjoy writing, which is after all, one of my listed reasons for blogging in the first place. Geez, I started another one last night. That is also the problem with niche blogging, it isn't always easy to write a post about an unrelated subject, in an existing blog, so I usually end up starting a new blog...oh my...now I have another one needing attention...I might have to hire some writers willing to work for food or something.

But, as I said, sometimes I have that 'not enough hours in the day' feeling, you know, the one where you always have that nagging feeling that you have too much to do and not enough time to do it. When that happens I get the feeling that maybe I should drop some blogs, step back and concentrate on just a couple....but something stops me from doing that....maybe sometime...but not yet...not just yet...I think in the short term, I am going to step back, and develop a new posting schedule for each blog, which should focus my efforts a little bit better. Who knows, it might even allow for a night off, a luxury I seldom allow myself with so many blogs to update.

If I had to do it again, I think I would stick to one niche blog until I had at least 100 posts, then maybe move on to another one. The way it stands, I have something like 40 or 50 blogs, but only a couple of them have any amount of posts, one is over 230, but most are under 100. That's because I post a few on one, then move to another and do a few for it, which means that in the end, both should be up and running with the same number of posts around the same time.

Unlike some websites, blogs do tend to be time sensitive, and readership does drop off if you stop posting, it just does. Blog readers like frequent, regular posting. Some of that has to do with the topics, which if they are current events based, can grow old quickly and not be of much interest to readers. So, I am trying to create some posts and blogs that are a little less focused on current events. I keep telling myself though that my goal is to get each blog to at least 100 good quality posts, and then it should be a little easier to maintain the traffic volumes and therefore the income from each blog that added together might start to add up a bit.

On another note, I made a sickening discovery the other day, some of my blogs are just not showing up in search engines. Including a couple that have quite a large number of posts and get fairly decent traffic. I cannot quite understand it, but it's happening. That's bugging me, and I am trying to find out why. Although I still submit to some directories and technorati sometimes, I have been trying to cultivate search engine traffic as opposed to what I sometimes feel is the artificial traffic that comes from directories etc. It's my feeling that relying on that kind of blog traffic is risky, because if the directory goes away, where does that leave your site?

I'm sorry folks...I'm rambling a bit...and I really haven't answered my question, which is better, many blogs or just a couple. I guess that is a question better left unanswered until I have more to base my opinion on.
