Make Money Blogging

Welcome to my blog. Like so many other blogs and websites this is about making money with blogs and websites....in particular this is about my experiences making money on the internet. At the time of this writing, I am the author of something in the area of 40 blogs, which keeps me pretty busy. Along the way I have learned quite a bit about what works and what doesn't. I hope my experiences help you.

The Science of Writing Blog Posts

Creating and writing a blog that is popular and makes money is part science, part artistic and part good luck. You have to know something about the science of what makes blogs work and people tick, be artistic enough to be creative and build a blog that has it's own voice and is different without being too far outside the mainstream and you have to be lucky enough to get picked up by the search engines and have found a topic that folks are interested in reading.

Today's post of Making Money Blogging is mostly about the scientific part of the business. This is often the part where bloggers fall down because it takes a little know how, or at least concentration on what you are trying to do.

If you are trying to make money from a blog or website, you've got to diversify to some degree, not putting all your eggs in one basket. (Although many do and some make pretty good money)

I'm a believer in a certain amount of diversification when it comes to monetizing a blog. Mostly because I want to build something that will return money to me over the long term and I don't want to risk losing hours and hours of hard work because my single income source goes south....

The trouble is if you diversify too much, you end up with a hodge-podge of stuff, Adsense ads mixed in with affiliate sales copy and so on. It's sometimes hard to target a post to line up with both of these and more.

But that is the beauty of blogging regularly. You can target posts for different purposes. Some blog posts should be designed to increase your search engine traffic, while others should be designed to increase your Adsense revenues and still others can be devoted to your affiliate sales or the sales of other products.

For example, you can have one post that features an Amazon product you are selling, write about it and don't worry too much about keywords for Adsense, concentrate your keywords on the product that you are selling. Conversely, other posts can be highly Adsense keyword active and be written to draw in some of the higher paying Adsense ads to your blog along with visitors looking for information about whatever you have chosen to write about.

It's easy to sit down and bang out a blog post about whatever is in your mind, or whatever comes off the tips of your typing fingers. I am guilty of doing this myself, often pounding out a post without thought for keywords or how I will rank in the search engines. It's a failing of mine, I suppose because it's not quite as easy to write a blog post that will make you money. You need to concentrate on more than just your thoughts, you have to be considering keywords and search engines and so forth. The same with affiliate sales, you have to be writing sales copy, not just a blog, and believe me the two are not the same thing. Even though the good copywriters can make it look like they are.

If you are trying to increase readership and therefore money, it pays to research what people are searching for on any given day. Technorati is good for helping with this as are sites like Yahoo's home page which lists the days most popular searches. For example, today one of the most popular searches according to Yahoo was "dust mites" Ok...I never would have thought of that.....

So before you start writing your next blog post, sit in front of the computer for a few minutes and decide what it is you are trying to do, and make a concious decision to carry that through to the end of the post. It will work. Trust me....have I ever lied to you?
