Blogging Strategy for Making Money Online

You read the blogs, and the ads, there are hundreds, no thousands of websites like this that promise you can make money online, and even suggest that making money on the internet is one of the easy ways to make money.

But is it? Is making money online easy? Sure, there seem to be lots of money making opportunities, but do they really work?

To be honest, I'm not sure. I do believe you can make money online. I don't know that I believe you can make lots of money. It isn't easy, it might have been one time, but those days are gone. There is a lot of competition, and lots of people are certainly trying to make money on the internet, but that doesn't mean they are.

As I said, it isn't easy, and it isn't fast, unless you happen to be very smart, or even better, very lucky. Making money online has gone from a no-brainer type of thing to a science, a trade, perhaps even a gift, for the gifted.

To make money, lots of money, enough to quit your day job, you have to work very hard, and more importantly, you have to work smart. You need to be looking for opportunities all the time, and you need to be thinking all the time. Believe it or not, this is a business, and all business opportunities are dicey, and take untold work and diligence to become successful.

I find that it's more than a full time job for me. I have a full time job, but then when it ends, I head home and work at my second full time job at night, hamstering away writing posts, reading other posts, answering emails, looking at new online business opportunities, monitoring my earnings, and the performance of my blogs.

Because I work all day and then work until midnight most nights doing the nuts and bolts of the blogging business, I find that I don't have much time for strategizing. I do that when I get in bed, which isn't good for a person at all. I actually lie in bed at night, thinking about my strategies, trying to improve what I am doing, or come up with new ideas, or better ways to do things.

One of the problems for most bloggers is that we are essentially loners. Yes, we write to millions, and yes, we get comments and emails, but most of what we do, we do alone. Many of us work at home. I write alone because that is what writing is, and I do all the administrative work alone, because there is no one else to do it. I am not making enough money to hire staff, I can't even pay my wife enough to do it....

That is probably what makes strategizing so difficult. As bloggers we don't often have other people in our business to bounce ideas off, or to make suggestions for improvements. This means we do it all ourselves, and that can have negative consequences and lead to a narrow viewpoint or focus.

I have a friend at my day job who likes to talk blogging with me sometimes. Over the last year or so, she has been the provider of several good ideas, both for blogs, and strategy. That's important, and valuable. It's not unlike a second opinion from a different doctor.

But just because it is difficult, don't overlook strategizing. Devote a little time to it regularly. Write down your thoughts for further research. If you want to be successful and make money online, you need to think not only like a blogger or writer, you also need to think like a business person, and a webmaster, and most of all, you need to try and think like your readers. That is what a blog strategy is all about.

If you are a blogger, find someone with a similar interest to yours, perhaps one of your readers, a family member, or a friend you trust. Ask for their input. When you are trying to come up with a money making strategy, ask them, tell them your ideas and see how they react. You will find it worthwhile.
