Adsense policies allow you to add up to three link units to your blog or website in addition to the three regular ad units. Link units are a good way to go, especially if you don't have much room.
Link units give you a list of topics related to the content of your blog or website much the same as the other contextual ads. When readers click on one of the headings listed in the link unit they are taken to a page of AdWords ads that are related to the topic. If they click on any of the ads you will earn money just as you would with the other Adsense ads appearing on your site.
I must admit I haven't done a lot with link units, meaning I haven't been putting them on my site very often. However, as of this writing I am going to add more to see how they perform. Personally I am not particularly fond of the way they look, I always think they are too small, or jammed up but that is just my opinion.
According to Adsense, link units perform well when placed on sites with very focused content where your readers are looking for information on something specific. Of course I believe that this is true for most Adsense ads, focused content usually brings good focused ads relating to the content which is what your readers are interested in.
As I have said before, and will say again, experimenting with different color combinations, formats and locations is important if you are serious about making money from your website from Adsense. It is no different for link units, experiment and track the performance. Perhaps a horizontal row across the bottom of your page and a vertical list in the sidebar to start with in a contrasting color to make them stand out. Watch how they perform, record it, and then change the location, color etc and see what happens until you reach the best possible combination.
I will let you know how adding more works for me.
Make Money Blogging
Welcome to my blog. Like so many other blogs and websites this is about making money with blogs and websites....in particular this is about my experiences making money on the internet. At the time of this writing, I am the author of something in the area of 40 blogs, which keeps me pretty busy. Along the way I have learned quite a bit about what works and what doesn't. I hope my experiences help you.
